WHOLE BLOOD

Whole blood donations are essential for trauma patients and those undergoing surgical procedures. One pint of blood is collected and separated into red blood cells, plasma and other components.

Blood Types: All types
Patient care: Trauma, surgery patients, and chronic conditions.
Donation time: 15 minutes
Duration: 1 hour
Return Eligibility: Every 56 days up to 6 times a year

DOUBLE-RED

Using an automated procedure, Double Red donations can double the number of red cells collected. This process is particularly beneficial in treating patients with sickle cell disease, trauma victims and newborns.

Blood Types: O-, O+, A-, B-
Patient Care: Pediatric patients, trauma or surgery patients, sickle cell patients and people with anemia
Donation time: 40 to 45 minutes
Duration: 1.5 hours
Return Eligibility: Every 112 days up to 3 times a year

PLATELETS

Platelets are an essential component in your blood which aids in clotting and prevents bleeding. In cancer patients, chemotherapy can drain platelet levels. When donating, the Platelets are extracted from your blood, and red cells and plasma are returned to the body, increasing the frequency at which you can donate.

Blood Types: A+, B+, AB+ and AB-
Patient Care: Cancer patients, people with blood disorders, open-heart surgeries and organ transplants
Donation time: 2 hours
Duration: 2.5 to 3 hours
Return Eligibility: Every 7 days up to 24 times a year

PLASMA

Plasma is the fluid in your blood which carries all other blood components through the body. Plasma donations benefit patients with severe blood loss from traumas, clotting disorders and burns. An automated process separates plasma from your blood and returns your blood to the body.

Blood Types: AB+, AB-
Patient Care: Patients in shock, those with severe burns or clotting disorders
Donation time: 30 to 45 minutes
Duration: 1.5 to 2 hours
Return Eligibility: Every 28 days up to 13 times a year
